Greyhound Handicapping - Free Handicapping Helpers
If you want to make money at the dog track, you have to dig a little deeper than most of the crowd. If you don't, you'll be among the 90% who lose, rather than the 10% who win. One way to make sure that you're ahead of the crowd is by knowing more than they do.
There are several ways to do this, but here's one way that's free. Just go to your favorite track's web site and look for statistics. Most of them have stats listed that tell you several very important things. These pieces of information are: winning post position statistics, kennel standings, top dogs and their times.
Add this information to a good handicapping system and you increase your chances of winning quite a bit. If you have good judgment and money management skills, you really have a chance of fattening your bankroll using stats.
I like to handicap using my favorite systems, then I go back and look at the post positions stats for the dogs I've picked. Understand, I don't throw out a dog if it's in a box that doesn't have a good percentage for wins, but I do evaluate that particular dog's chances of overcoming that post bias.
I don't only play the top kennels either, but I pay attention to whose dogs are in top form and running well, which is what kennel standings tells me. It also might tell me who has the most money to spend on buying the best dogs and producing the best litters by the best parents.
Why more people don't avail themselves of this free information is beyond me, but when I talk to people about them, I get a blank look from a lot of folks. Apparently, most handicappers don't spend any time on the track web sites, which is a shame, because there's a lot of information on some of them.
True, some tracks barely give you a link to the programs - mostly the ones that are focused on their casino. But several tracks, like Bluffs Run and Derby Lane, have some good info on the main page. Derby Lane even has a blog that has the latest info on young pups coming up and upcoming stakes races there and at other tracks.
I'm always looking for more ways to find out what I need to know to win at the dog track. If you are too, take a look at the free information that's out there and see if it doesn't help you the next time you go over your program. Just because something is free, doesn't mean it's worthless.
