Greyhound Betting: What Does Speed Have To Do With It?

Greyhound betting can be very intimidating sometimes, as you never know what you might get. You always have to be very involved in the racing to become a better judge as to who has better chances of winning. There are many factors when betting on the greyhounds that you have to keep in mind in order to improve your chances of winning.

Although it may seem as though speed is the most important of all the factors, it would be all too easy if it came down to choosing the fastest dog in the race. Usually, the bettors pick the greyhounds that have been extremely fast in the past few races, but once you figure out that this is not the best way to determine the winner, you might want to try a better approach. One approach could be to place your bet on the dog which has the given an exceptional best time, however, even this information cannot be used on its own to determine whether that dog will win or not.

Speed alone is not the primary factor to consider because there are various external factors that you have to keep in mind as well. It might have been a wet day when a dog made his or her best time, for example, whereas on the day that you have to bet, it is dry. Moreover, there could be a difference in the tracks as well, which could have previously favored the greyhound that may not be present on a different track. Bear this in mind, as in addition to speed, there are numerous other aspects, which also have to be given consideration besides  the dog itself.

To maximize your earning potential, you could start by doing some research in order to figure out what weather conditions and which tracks suit a dog in particular. If a dog is brilliant in a wet and soggy track, then chances are that it will not be the same on a dry, rough patch. While it is true that there are a few dogs that are quite versatile in all conditions, this is exceedingly rare. You should not judge what greyhound to bet on by what you have seen in just one race. There might have been one or two dogs, which particularly appealed to you, but if you think that they will make a good bet, then try to follow up on some other races where they ran, and see how well they manage in other situations.

Some dogs are also much more competitive than other dogs. If they see another dog approaching during the race, they usually become more energetic and run faster, and most probably can win the race. You can judge whether a greyhound is competitive or not by analyzing his or her running, though as always, bear in mind that if such dogs are in a race with dogs that are not as fast, the dog might lose its drive and end up losing altogether.
